Happy Monday, all. Why don't we start the week with an inspiring work of art? What makes it extra inspiring is that it was created by Fourth Graders. Really! I've sung the praises of my talented friend Dana before. She is an interior designer by trade, but is also amazingly creative and a wonderful artist. Her children attend a neighborhood school that asks a parent to marshal the talents of each class to create a piece of art for their annual auction. Dana teamed up with her daughter and the rest of the 4th grade class and this is what they dreamed up.
Dana came up with the overall idea and design, Then, each child imagined and designed their own flower - made from French and English language newspapers - and painted a shard that would become part of the blue and white vase - Dana has a pretty extensive collection of blue and white, so was able to provide the kids with a thorough education on the graphic and organic patters often found on Chinese Export porcelain.
Once everything was hand cut, the pieces were assembled on a 48x36 canvas that Dana had painted a pale blue. Varnished into place, they have a lively texture.
The petals hold the name of the child that designed them. A lovely memory for the lucky family that brings this piece home, but more than that, it's a gorgeous work of art - you can feel the happy energy of the kids who made it in every shard and bloom.
What have you seen lately that inspires you?
Have a lovely week! XO
