An Invitation To Spring Forward

Are we ready for spring? Whether there's still snow on the ground where you are or the bulbs are starting to push up, it's hard not to be inspired by the promise of les printemps now that we're in the second week of March. And this month's By Invitation Only blog party is one big virtual season-starting shopping spree. We're looking for a go-to spring outfit... something inspired by flowers.

Flowers are one of my favorites sources of inspiration. They inspire my art, they inspire my celebrations and how I decorate my home...

And, of course, they inspire my closet, especially this time of year.

Admittedly, when I'm in the studio painting, my go-to outfit is often a hodge podge of the day's workout wear, my favorite Majestic Bay PJs and moth-eaten cashmere. So when I do venture out, I need something as easy as it is elegant.

For years my spring formula has been anchored by pretty floral pint dress - I can't resist adding a new one to my closet when the tulips start blooming. Top it with a cashmere cardigan (J.Crew is my go-to). I'm partial to a small clutch for day or night, but sometimes you just have to grab a carry-all tote - just make it a pretty color or neutral (need a break from black). Ballerina flats for day, sassy heels for night, and I'm ready to spring forward.

So tell me, what's your go-to look for spring? Do flowers power your closet at all?

And please spring on over to see the other By Invitation Only posts - you'll find them at Splenderosa.

  16. Of course, I love your inspiration!!! I can see you in your floral dress with the perfect accessories! We aren't quite in spring dresses yet, but I have found the sweetest petal pink coat with bracelet length sleeves. Even wearing it over jeans with my Rag & Bone boots and a sweater and scarf makes me feel closer to Spring! I have a favorite new catchall bag....an LV with my initials and stripes in pink + white.

Banishing black is what I'm going for now. It is my winter uniform and I am ready for something bright and pretty!

  18. What a happy post Jeanne! But flowers do that, don't they? They inject their sweet selves into the atmosphere somehow. Certainly, when I think of your paintings, I always think of flowers - your paintings radiate that same happiness of life.

These season-centric BIO topics are always really insightful to me - as it never ceases to drive home just how important the different seasons are in the Northern Hemisphere, because there is SO much contrast between them. (I only really understood that when I lived in London, because as an Australian, there isn't so much contrast between winter and summer - our winter's are so very mild - and many of the Australian native plants actually flower in winter rather than in spring.)

I hope you get to wear your fabulous spring-flowered dress outfit somewhere delicious!!
