Inspired By: A Work of Art Made By Little Hands

Happy Monday, all. Why don't we start the week with an inspiring work of art? What makes it extra inspiring is that it was created by Fourth Graders. Really! I've sung the praises of my talented friend Dana before. She is an interior designer by trade, but is also amazingly creative and a wonderful artist. Her children attend a neighborhood school that asks a parent to marshal the talents of each class to create a piece of art for their annual auction. Dana teamed up with her daughter and the rest of the 4th grade class and this is what they dreamed up.

Dana came up with the overall idea and design, Then, each child imagined and designed their own flower - made from French and English language newspapers - and painted a shard that would become part of the blue and white vase - Dana has a pretty extensive collection of blue and white, so was able to provide the kids with a thorough education on the graphic and organic patters often found on Chinese Export porcelain.

Once everything was hand cut, the pieces were assembled on a 48x36 canvas that Dana had painted a pale blue. Varnished into place, they have a lively texture.

The petals hold the name of the child that designed them. A lovely memory for the lucky family that brings this piece home, but more than that, it's a gorgeous work of art - you can feel the happy energy of the kids who made it in every shard and bloom.

What have you seen lately that inspires you?

Have a lovely week! XO

Time to Bloom: A Spring Beauty Refresh

Speaking of springing forward and go-to looks for the season, when the flowers start blooming it seems time to restock the colors in one's beauty paint box.

It's tough to rival the blush of a tulip unless you've got a few pretty colors on your palette!

Packaging for AERIN is so lovely, it's tough to break into this Weekend Palette but with warm neutrals and pale pinks for lips, cheeks and eyes tucked into a pretty case of gold, this is sure to become a go-to.

Playing with the colors of spring doesn't have to be much of an investment. Drug store nail polish will have you sandal-ready, even if the weather isn't quite.

And never underestimate the power of a new lipstick. Want the perfect pout straight out of a J.Crew catalog? Their longtime makeup artist Troi Ollvierre has packaged it up in a pretty gold tube.

What about you? Any new favorites in your makeup bag for spring?

Here's to taking those perfectly polished toes out for a drink this weekend! Hope it's a lovely one! XO

An Invitation To Spring Forward

Are we ready for spring? Whether there's still snow on the ground where you are or the bulbs are starting to push up, it's hard not to be inspired by the promise of les printemps now that we're in the second week of March. And this month's By Invitation Only blog party is one big virtual season-starting shopping spree. We're looking for a go-to spring outfit... something inspired by flowers.

Flowers are one of my favorites sources of inspiration. They inspire my art, they inspire my celebrations and how I decorate my home...

And, of course, they inspire my closet, especially this time of year.

Admittedly, when I'm in the studio painting, my go-to outfit is often a hodge podge of the day's workout wear, my favorite Majestic Bay PJs and moth-eaten cashmere. So when I do venture out, I need something as easy as it is elegant.

For years my spring formula has been anchored by pretty floral pint dress - I can't resist adding a new one to my closet when the tulips start blooming. Top it with a cashmere cardigan (J.Crew is my go-to). I'm partial to a small clutch for day or night, but sometimes you just have to grab a carry-all tote - just make it a pretty color or neutral (need a break from black). Ballerina flats for day, sassy heels for night, and I'm ready to spring forward.

So tell me, what's your go-to look for spring? Do flowers power your closet at all?

And please spring on over to see the other By Invitation Only posts - you'll find them at Splenderosa.

Caught My Eye: Brocante Blue and White

Happy Friday, everyone! Hope you all on the East Coast aren't turning blue with cold. For some better blues, check out Sharon Santoni's post on My French Country Home about Flora Liseron transferware from French manufactures Creil and Montereau. It caught my eye this week.

At a Brocante fair in Paris, Sharon spied a 140-piece collection that all belonged to one family. It's amazing. Sharon leads Brocante Shopping Tours each year, taking clients to fairs and antiques dealers around Normandy and to the Paris flea markets - joining one is definitely on my bucket list.

If you were going on one of Sharon's brocante buying trips, what would you like to bring home?

Have a wonderful weekend! I'll be back on Tuesday with this month's By Invitation Only post... XOXO

The Lion in Winter

Happy March, everyone! No lions in sight so far here in Seattle, I think they are all congregating in the Northeast. Hope my friends there can soon trade their snow boots in for sandals!

And that the month turns quite lamb-like in no time at all!

Whether it's lions or lambs on your doorstep this morning, here's to a lovely week! Only 18 days until spring - what are you most looking forward to? XO
