Oscar de la Renta: A Beautiful Life

There's plenty of darkness in the world, which is why we need people who can find the light and the joy and reflect it back to all of us. Whether it's by creating a lovely dress, setting a gracious table or cultivating a verdant garden, the ability to make things beautiful is a gift that should never be taken for granted.

Life might not always be pretty, but I'm so grateful that we had Oscar de la Renta to remind us that it can be beautiful. He will be missed.

Happy Wednesday, everyone. I hope that someone brings a little beauty into your world today! XO

  2. HERE HERE. I needed your reminder that to be filled with light is to reflect it back on others. Sometimes you run into people or unfortunately, have to work with them....and they either don't like that light in you. But to have found the light is to find LIFE. What a beautiful man.

    1. Anita, in my old job we had a saying "focus on the things within your control" - you can't control how people respond to you, but you can control what you put out there for them to respond to ;-)

Here's wishing you plenty of light and beauty in your day! XOXO

  3. A legend of a man, so respected and so important in the fashion world for decades. So saddened by this loss. Thank you Jeanne for this lovely tribute.

  4. Jeanne,
So true. I have an instagram friend Holly who writes The Silver Pen and one evening her husband convinced her to wear her Oscar and they proceeded to go out and she met Oscar! If you google her and see her site, she shines such a positive light to breast cancer survivors. She also wears Oscar so beautifully!
Love this post and Oscar leaves behind and elegant light that will shine on.

  6. A great tribute to a great man. Love your illustration, Jeanne - and so fortunate to *own* two of your creations, too! :-) - With this very rainy Seattle Wednesday, had to go back to Capitol Hill to find some beauty... It came in the shape of a fragrant, and delicious Chausson aux Pommes at my friend Nora's Inès Pâtisserie... Veronique (French Girl in Seattle)

  9. Jeanne so well said. He was such a gentleman, a man of honor and integrity, who showed us beauty and loveliness at its most graceful and elegant.
His legacy will live on through his beautiful clothes and iconic name......surely he will be missed by so many. I am lucky to own two things bearing his name and will treasure them forever:)

  11. What a lovely tribute. He will, indeed, be missed. There was also a wonderful tribute to him on the editorial page of yesterday's Wall Street Journal!

  12. What a beautiful quote only made more so by your talented hand, Jeanne. The world has lost a true gentleman and our only hope is that there will be much for Oscar to do in heaven...

  14. He was a gift to the world....not only in the field of design, but in so many areas. He was a true gentleman and knew how to make women look their absolute best.

How wonderful that his designs are still with us to be enjoyed by generations to come.
    xoxo Elizabeth

  15. Our friend, Katie the Preppy Empty Nester sent me in your direction. I love this beautiful graphic. I think Oscar de la Renta was probably one of the first designer I ever remember hearing about. Sure there was Bob Mackie and all the over the top Cher costumes but Oscar could always be counted on for elegant, colorful and lovely style.
