Mad For Plaid

Happy Friday, all. Is fall in full swing where you are? Our weather shifted so swiftly from summer sun to autumn rain and chill that it took me by surprise. Suddenly it seems that the closet needs a bit of stocking. Perhaps it's all the bagpipers we heard in Scotland or the million tartan shops we passed, but plaid is looking good this season. It was all over Fall 2014 runways and the street style set has been sporting it all month at the shows in New York, Milan, London and Paris.

There's plenty of plaids to pick from...

But unless you're a character from the Outlander series... Or Cher Horowitz...

Too much plaid is tough to pull off. Better to keep it simple like the Duchess of Cambridge:

Pair a statement dress with simple but chic black accessories. A wee pop of color on the ears or lips is pretty.

Any tartan in your closet this season or are you leaving it to the pipers?

Have a lovely weekend - whether you are cozied up in plaid flannel pajamas or dressed up to paint the town, hope it's wonderful! XO

  1. I like plaid in small doses. I also like a tiny bit in the home, maybe a pillow or pretty napkins, a table topper or place mats, the "less is more" theory typically applies here. But no doubt it is very elegant and stately...enjoy your weekend Jeanne!

    1. I love a little plaid around the house, Tina - especially over the holidays. But agree that less is more. Hope you have a wonderful weekend, too! XO

  2. There is something just terrific about tartan. I have a skirt with red grosgrain down the side and it makes an appearance every year. I wish I had those wide leg blackwatch plaid trousers I stitched in college. I loved wearing them with a white shirt and velvet blazer and boots.
I think my Thanksgiving table needs some Tartan!

  9. Of course the piece I liked best is the Saint Laurent jacket! :0 On my budget...I have been looking for a vintage lumberjack plaid jacket while in the States. Great minds...

  11. My mom had the most perfect plaid skirt from a trip to Scotland in 1960. I wore it often during high school (preppy was IN), but I've lost track of it. It was the kind of piece that literally would never be out of style. I have dreamed of a tartan pair of shoes. Hmmmmm.....might just need to splurge! :)
