Three Things I Learned From Mom

Happy Friday, everyone - and happy Mother's Day. I hope that all you mothers out there will be treated like queens this weekend. Isn't it wonderful that we can take a moment to celebrate our moms and all the things they've taught us? The long list of lessons would keep us here all day, so here's just a few things I've learned from my lovely mother:

MAKE LIFE SWEET: My mom taught me how to make a pie, but more importantly, she taught me how much better life can be when you focus on the sweetness. Her optimistic attitude and positive outlook always made things brighter, and are qualities that I try to emulate every day.

MAKE LIFE BEAUTIFUL: Every birthday, every holiday and sometimes just the occasional Saturday morning were always something special - the table set with the best china, parties with themes and all sorts of personal touches, handmade decorations for the Christmas tree. Any creativity I possess, I inherited from my mom. Every time I host a dinner party and decide to make the table a little personal and special, I think of her.

MAKE LIFE AN ADVENTURE: My mom wasn't really one for travel. She loved spending summers at the lake house my Dad built and the occasional week at the ocean. But even if we were close to home, it didn't mean that every day wasn't an adventure. Whether picking daisies in the field across the lane or a long walk on the beach searching for shells, my Mom always helped us see the wonder of it all. I've been lucky to take the natural curiosity she instilled around the world with me, but know there's plenty to see and observe in my own backyard.

What lessons have you learned from your mom?

Hope you have a wonderful weekend! XOXO

Know she has been having trouble with her email service, but that she has switched services, so hopefully you'll start receiving her emails again soon.

Have a wonderful mother's day weekend! XOXO

  5. Such a lovely post, Jeanne...what you say about your Mum teaching you how much better life is when you focus on the sweetness touched me; she sounds a wonderful lady.
My Mum taught me many lessons in her sadly, short life but the most important being to treat others with kindness...always have a kind word.
    Happy Weekend xx

  6. Our mother taught us to always treat a person with kindness and grace - even if they're not so kind to you. She always says that you never know what kind of day they're having so leave them feeling like their day just got better! Hope you have a lovely weekend filled with sweet, creative adventures, Jeanne.

  10. Love your blog, and art of whimsy beauty.
Happy Mother's Day to you too!
As for your Napa visit I so agree with you and the beauty it offers. I was born on Southern Ca. But then moved to Washington State a small town at the time called Redmond, and a time in Seattle and can say I love Washington, from there I moved to the Bay Area and lived a great many years there and love love love Napa Valley. I can see you and your girls weekend was a beautiful time for you.
I am going to enjoy visiting you and getting to know you much better.
I now live in Southern Ca. Again and enjoy all it offers as well.

    Beautiful weekend to you.

  12. What a beautiful poignant and touching tribute to what your mom taught you. I loved it! And seriously your talent is "off the hook"...you know i am one of your biggest fans:) My Mom taught me to be a kind, fair and honest person, that family always comes first and to treat and love others as you want to be treated and loved. She set the bar high and I am forever in her debt:)
Wishing you an amazing Mothers Day, may it be filled with much joy, love and laughter!

You ask what we have learned from our mothers, mine has taught me fairness and compassion, to be as kind as possible. She is also very musical, and has filled our life with joy in music- I will forever be grateful
    Sending love to you xx
