A Bit of Blue and White

Happy weekend, all! Will you be kicking up your heels? Why not in these blue and white beauties from Duchess of Cambridge favorite LK Bennett?

Pair them with this lovely pink peony of a dress from Oscar de la Renta...

Abundance

Our roses have been blooming like crazy this June. Some of them the size of dessert plates.

They've never blushed so spectacularly. I confess, though, the rest of the garden is a bit of a mess. A landscaping project keeps hitting delays and while we wait to start, we've let our little patch of green grow wild.

But the roses remind me that abundance can be found even when things aren't perfect. Not a bad thought to start the week on.

Hope yours is rosy!

The Longest Day

"Do you ever wait for the longest day of the year and then miss it? I always wait for the longest day of the year and then miss it!" -- F. Scott Fitzgerald, The Great Gatsby

And here we are--the longest day of the year. The summer solstice, the start of summer and the turning point when, after pausing at the same level on the horizon for three days, the sun begins its slow march toward the short, dark days of December. I prefer to focus on the summer part. If the weather cooperates, we're planning to celebrate the extra hours of daylight with a post-work hike before finding the perfect picnic spot or patio to toast the sun when it finally sets at 9:11 PM this evening.

Happy summer to you! Any plans to celebrate the sun today?

Beginning Over Again

"And so with the sunshine and the great bursts of leaves growing on the trees, I had the familiar conviction that life was beginning over again with summer." -- F. Scott Fitzgerald, The Great Gatsby

Hello, hello. And how are you? It's hard to know where to begin. Let's start with thanks. To dear friends who held me up over the past six months. For all of you who reached out, checked in and let me know you've missed my posts. To everyone who sent thoughts and prayers. Your kindness and care has meant the world.

My mom and dad are together and safe in a great community. I've been back at home just over a month now. Knowing how to pick up again...and figuring out what's next... has been challenging. And getting back into rhythm with the blog... I haven't quite been able to find my voice. This experience has left me a lot more introverted, introspective and, well, sad, which doesn't help cultivate intriguing posts. Navel-gazing does not make for good reading or conversation.

But with a riot of roses bursting in the garden, peonies blooming throughout our house, and a June that has so far started without much of the usual Seattle gloom, I feel a sense of promise, that it is time to begin again.

So bear with me, please. I intend to roll up my sleeves and get back to it. I'm not sure how frequently posts will appear, or what the heck I'll find to write about. But when something pretty catches my eye, or I read a book I think you'll like, or find a recipe that needs to be shared, I will pop in and tell you about it.

Until then, happy (almost) summer! Here's hoping the season blooms with beautiful newness for all of us!
