Embracing Fall

"Autumn, the year's last, loveliest smile." - William Cullen Bryant

And so here we are. Fall. I think I've mentioned to a few of you that I've been resisting the transition from Summer to Autumn this year for various reasons. But you can't fight the changing of the seasons, so I'm breathing in the chill air and reminding myself of the things I love about Fall:

Pumpkins, warm bowls of soup, lingering over coffee on a drizzly morning, tricks-or-treats, candlelight on newly early darkening evenings, the first fire in the fireplace, boots, sweaters, apples, It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown, the crunch and smell of newly fallen leaves under my feet...

What do you love most about this time of year? XO

  1. Absolutely everything, Jeanne.

Although here in Provence, we will have a bit longer to wait--I am wearing a linen shirt as I type (although the white linen has already been put away) but I noticed in the grocery store that they have brought out the ingredients for choucroute (!!!) and I saw the first chanterelle mushrooms at the Saturday market...yes, as you have said yourself, the change in seasons here is all about the food. :)

  6. Fall is my favorite season and was one of the strongest draws to move to New England for me. I love everything you mentioned but would add, for me, the earlier arrival of evening. I hasten to add that, in the depths of winter, I will pine for the arrival of spring and its longer days, but I never embrace them with the same fervor that fall elicits. Enjoy!

And thanks so much for visiting The Modern Trobadors!

  7. fall is bittersweet. i love my lush forest right now and to see the trees bare is not my favorite. i like that lawn maintenance is suddenly a non issue. and apple cider donuts. and sweaters. but my heart remains a summer heart so i am busy planning trips to warm places!

    smiles to you.
