Summer Pleasures: Hydrangea Happiness

August already? How did that happen? Doesn't summer seem to be slipping by way too fast? Don't you want to soak up all the splendors that will fade with the long, warm days?  To make the most of them, I'm going to try to truly savor at least one of summer's simple pleasures every day while the season lasts.

Like the abundance of flowers, starting with roses in June and carrying on through the dahlias that bloom into the first days of fall. But the happiest flowers have to be the hydrangeas.

I love how they bob their heads as if to say hello. They remind me of long bike rides out to Sconset...

And of our Sun Valley wedding, where they provided the perfect "something blue" to match the summer sky.

I love being able to wander out into the yard with garden shears and come back with little bits of summer to enjoy throughout the house.

What are your favorite summer pleasures? How do you plan to make the most of this last month of the season?

  1. More time on our terrace enjoying the cooler weather is how we'd like to spend the last weeks of summer... And doing some fun outdoor activities with the boys! Hydrangeas are some of our favorite summer pleasures, too. Hope you have a wonderful weekend, Jeanne!

  3. One of the easiest and prettiest shrubs, I just can't get enough of Hydrangeas. From pinks to blues to whites, every garden should have a few!! Happy August!

  6. I adore hydrangeas...and have been cutting a bunch and enjoying them indoors. I think mine are nearing the end of their season and I will be sad to see them go. I'm starting to feel summer rushing to a finish. Need to savor each and every day!
