The Longest Day

"Do you ever wait for the longest day of the year and then miss it? I always wait for the longest day of the year and then miss it!" -- F. Scott Fitzgerald, The Great Gatsby

And here we are--the longest day of the year. The summer solstice, the start of summer and the turning point when, after pausing at the same level on the horizon for three days, the sun begins its slow march toward the short, dark days of December. I prefer to focus on the summer part. If the weather cooperates, we're planning to celebrate the extra hours of daylight with a post-work hike before finding the perfect picnic spot or patio to toast the sun when it finally sets at 9:11 PM this evening.

Happy summer to you! Any plans to celebrate the sun today?

  1. Hello Jeanne

Lovely to see your post today, I have missed you glad to see all is well and I love your watercolour of the sun. Your plan to celebrate today sounds terrific. My husband and his friend have a tradition of sending a very brief email, today, and again at winter solstice, the heading "it's all donwhill from here" or "it's all uphill from here". They then giggle.

    Have a glorious summer

  2. I nearly missed it too! Which is especially surprising as it La Fete de la Musique here in France as well.

I think that I might do a special yoga practice--lots of sun salutes seem in order!

    Enjoy your hike and toast,
    Bon Weekend et Bisous,
