Beginning Over Again

"And so with the sunshine and the great bursts of leaves growing on the trees, I had the familiar conviction that life was beginning over again with summer." -- F. Scott Fitzgerald, The Great Gatsby

Hello, hello. And how are you? It's hard to know where to begin. Let's start with thanks. To dear friends who held me up over the past six months. For all of you who reached out, checked in and let me know you've missed my posts. To everyone who sent thoughts and prayers. Your kindness and care has meant the world.

My mom and dad are together and safe in a great community. I've been back at home just over a month now. Knowing how to pick up again...and figuring out what's next... has been challenging. And getting back into rhythm with the blog... I haven't quite been able to find my voice. This experience has left me a lot more introverted, introspective and, well, sad, which doesn't help cultivate intriguing posts. Navel-gazing does not make for good reading or conversation.

But with a riot of roses bursting in the garden, peonies blooming throughout our house, and a June that has so far started without much of the usual Seattle gloom, I feel a sense of promise, that it is time to begin again.

So bear with me, please. I intend to roll up my sleeves and get back to it. I'm not sure how frequently posts will appear, or what the heck I'll find to write about. But when something pretty catches my eye, or I read a book I think you'll like, or find a recipe that needs to be shared, I will pop in and tell you about it.

Until then, happy (almost) summer! Here's hoping the season blooms with beautiful newness for all of us!

  1. Hooray! Oh, I know I won't be the only one who has that exact reaction upon seeing a notification of a new post from you, dear Jeanne.

You know how glad I am that your parents are well settled and I can't wait to finally meet you here! Good things lie ahead. As my Mom says, the wheel always turns at some point...
    Gros Bisous,

    1. Thanks so much for all the encouragement over the past few months, Heather! I'm looking forward to meeting up, too. XO

  2. Jeanne-
You don't know how happy it made me to see that you had posted today!
I have been through the same thing and know how much wind it takes out of your sails. I will continue to keep you in my prayers. Things WILL get better.
    Happy Monday,

    1. Oh, thank you so much Teresa. I've missed your lovely view on the world and am looking forward to catching up. Thanks for the encouragement! XO

  3. Welcome back, Jeanne! It's delightful to see your post. Beautiful illustration - would make a lovely fabric. And, yes, happy 'almost' summer!
Sending you all my best ~

  4. Thanks for the warm welcome back, Loi!

  5. Yay, you're back, Jeanne!!!!!! Thanks for your sweet comments recently....I'm just getting organized again after our trip abroad.

You have been missed and thought about. I don't know the depths to which you were dealing, but knew that it was difficult. What's great about the blogging community is that it is a very caring, welcoming place and you are able to pick up right where you left off. And, if you've picked up those paint brushes again....just share what you're painting!! :)

    Big hugs!
    xoxo Elizabeth

  6. I was excited to see you in the inbox! Life changes you, especially when you "step up to the plate." Your "voice" is interesting to me, and to all of your readers, whether or not they are bloggers themselves. Looking forward to hearing from you when you are ready......

  7. What a wonderful way to the start the week - a notice that you've posted in our inbox! We're so happy to seeing you back and blogging and know whatever catches your eye will make us smile. Here's to summer and feeling rejuvenated!
    C + C

  8. Welcome back, dear Jeanne!! It is great to see a post from you and I love that Fitzgerald passage. It was wonderful to see you the other night as well. xo, ebh

  9. There is no French expression for "Welcome back," so... Welcome back, Jeanne. I understand the last few months have been difficult for your family. I hope you find your blogging voice back... Take your time, and I agree with you, this June has not been half as bad, for once! Veronique (French Girl in Seattle)

  10. welcome back! I'll continue to keep you in my prayers!!

  11. You described it so well, was so great to see you recently and catch up a bit. I am also having trouble "finding my voice" given all that is going on, so I can totally relate. Hang in there!

  12. Glad to see you back Jeanne and glad to read your parents are doing well. You've been missed. You'll find your voice again when you've settled back into your everyday routine. Until then we're just as happy seeing a piece of your stunning artwork.

  13. welcome back Jeanne....your painting speaks a thousands words, beautiful. No words needed. Wishing you a happy summer

  14. YAY! So good to see you back at it - even a little. Welcome home, friend. :)

  15. Happy to see you back. Also happy that your parents are settled. It is terribly difficult watching our parents age. This past week I was visiting my in laws, both in their late 80's and one of which has had 3 mini-strokes in the last month, stubborn, full of life and not willing to take help or ask for it.

Prayers to you and your family, looking forward to more of your beautiful posts.

  16. It is difficult to easy one's parents into the next stage of their life because it isn't only their life it's your life too. Good luck to you. Ann
