The Last Dahlias

When I went out looking for flowers for Book Club, a few buckets of dahlias still dotted the stalls of Pike Place Market.  But just a week later, I needed a few more blooms for our dining room table and there were none left to be found.

It seems like these white dahlias were the last of the season. Pale ghosts of the flowers from the warmer months.

I'll miss the hydrangeas, the roses and the dahlias now that even our Indian summer has fully given way to the heart of autumn. But I'm ready to make way for narcissus, hot house tulips, and plenty of winter greens.

What flowers do you like to bring home once we've seen the last of the autumn blooms?

  2. I like to bring home branches! At this time of year, folks often trim the olive trees in the Alpilles and the branches I find on the ground look great thrown willy-nilly in the fireplace.

Wishing you a lovely week ahead!

    1. Oh, love the idea of the texture that branches can bring. Not a lot of olive trees around here, but I'm sure I can find something of interest out on our next walk. Hope you have a lovely week, too, Heather! XO

  3. I am enjoying the chinese lanterns and cabbages right now, but soon it will be down to twigs, branches and pinecones until I start forcing some bulbs, which I love to do in January after the Christmas stuff comes down!

  6. I love seeing your love of blue and white!!

This weekend I had an arrangement of white roses, cabbage roses, artichokes, hydrangeas and thistles.

I usually love whatever is in season!!
    What's your book club reading?

    1. Hi Elizabeth, We just finished an "An Unexpected Guest" which I really enjoyed. Still trying to decide on the next one (my pick) - thinking either "The Hypnotists Love Story" or "In Sunlight and in Shadow"

      Your arrangement sounds gorgeous!! XO

  8. They are so beautiful. I don't buy many flowers in winter, but I have my calamondin tree that likes to blossom when it gets colder. I adore its smell and pretty little oranges. x
