A Perfect Puerta Vallarta Wedding

From Paris to Puerta Vallarta -- this time last year we were relaxing poolside in PV, gearing up for the wedding of dear friends Chris and Gina. I'm a big fan of destination weddings. The bride and groom get more chances to connect with friends and loved ones beyond just the rush of the big event. For guests, it's like camp for grown ups -- time to relax and play with favorite people away from the hecticness of everyday life.

Chris and Gina couldn't have chosen a more lovely spot for their day -- the magical Hacienda San Angel with the hotel's Puerta de Cielo chapel perched on the hillside overlooking La Iglesia Nuestra Senora de Guadelupe. From a surprise rehearsal dinner fireworks display to one of the craziest dance floors ever, the elegant but relaxed and wickedly fun event perfectly reflected the couple's personalities.

One of the moments I loved most was when a mariachi band popped up at the end of the ceremony and escorted the bride, groom and their guests across the street from the chapel to the hotel courtyard for cocktail hour.

Happy Anniversary, Chris and Gina! Thanks so much for inviting me to be part of your big day. Such treasured memories.

Would you do a destination wedding (or did you)?

  1. My husband and I had a destination wedding and 24 years later our friends still talk about it. Invite your closest friends and let them run wild it was great!

  2. I guess you could say we had a destination wedding - at least for my friends and family - in Munich. It was great and the German side of the family worked hard to make it very memorable for those who traveled so far to be there. This wedding looks like SO much fun! I love the mariachi band - a great transition for the serious, emotional part to the festive part of the ceremony! :) Have a great weekend Jeanne...will I be seeing you on June 4?

  3. OK...I wish I was friends with Chris and Gina! What an amazingly fun, colorful, unique wedding this had to be. And, lucky were there.

Happy anniversary to your friends and thank you for letting us peek into your world.

    Have a wonderful weekend!!
    xoxo Elizabeth

  7. Spectacular! My nephew had a gorgeous destination wedding also in Mexico, San Migel del Allende and it was such a treasured time....just amazing. This one looks goregous too. Love them and if I were doing it all over again, I would so opt for one myself. Little do my 3 sons know I hae all their weddings mapped out..haha, one in Hawaii, one in Napa and one in Tuscany!

  8. Such wonderful pics. I especially love the one of the bride stepping into the street, and of those adorable kids.
