And Marie Antoinette Wore Chanel

"Frivolity is a healthy attitude. I know people who were saved by frivolity." --Karl Lagerfeld

If Marie Antoinette and her inner circle were alive today roaming the grounds of Versailles, they may very well be dressed as they are in Karl Lagerfeld's imagination. Flounces and feathers and poofs met denim and clunky flatform shoes as the Chanel Cruise collection marched down the gravel paths of the Le Notre-designed gardens. A Laduree box of pastel colors washed dowager tweeds and the models' wigs, and Chanel double C beauty marks kissed their cheeks.

Paris weather may have been cold and unreliable over the past few weeks, but of course the skies would do nothing but clear for the modern-day Sun King. The only water droplets in sight came from the fountains' spray.
