Nesting In The Nook

One of the "nest-feathering" projects I'm working on this Fall with my friend and Design Guru Dana is creating a cozy breakfast nook in our kitchen. This sweet little settee is our latest arrival...

It actually took awhile to figure out what to do with the nook...

It started with the vision of a built-in banquette...

...with red and white ticking stripe like this one that's been in my inspiration file for years.

But the space is a touch too small. So we thought we'd tuck in a vintage table and add a few Louis chairs...

...but that didn't feel "just right."

Then the light bulb finally came on -- why not a cozy little settee? Of course!

As it turns out, the Sofia settee from Ballard Design did the trick!

It fits perfectly into the nook, right under a window that gazes out on our magnolia tree-- I can't wait to sit here in the spring and watch the pink blossoms pop!

We're still on the hunt for the perfect 39 to 41-inch round vintage table and the Louis chairs, but add a couple pillows from Pam at Red Ticking and, voila, a lovely nest for drinking morning coffee and reading a book. Perfect happiness! When the pieces all come together, I'll share a bigger photo.

How about you? Do you have any nest-feathering projects this fall?

  3. I love the country living pic. Funny story I actually have a magazine clipping I filed away before I was married of this picture. I wanted to remember it for when I eventually had my own kitchen to decorate. Good memories.

  4. Ooh - fun to finally see it. If you come across a 54" antique table in your searches, let me know - I'm in the market! :)

  5. Very cool breakfast nook ideas! From what I can tell, great idea to put the nook by some good windows because that light coming through is incredible! I also love the lighting that is over each breakfast table, especially the one with the orange couch. The orange and red sofas are super cute! Fun stuff!

  6. Our kitchen table area....just isn't right yet, either. Thought about a built in banquette. But, that didn't seem right. I was thinking of having something made..and I think a big key is getting a smaller table. I'm always knocking my knees on the pedestal...which was originally used as my NYC dining room table. Sometimes...a piece just doesn't work anymore.

Love how yours is coming together!!

  9. Hello again, Senora... Could you meet on Tuesday of next week at the Harvest Vine to talk about Spain? The first week of October is pretty open as well, but those mid-weeks are going to be a little crazy. And don't even get me started on all of the halloween madness!
