Girls in White Dresses

Well, hi! Happy Labor Day Weekend. How's everyone? I certainly didn't expect to be away so long. Thanks for all your kind words and well-wishes! This "back attack" has been a real pain, but I'm hoping I'm on the mend and that a long weekend of mountain air, some spa time and relaxing by the pool with a good book will set me to rights. Speaking of good books, if you're still looking for a holiday weekend read, may I recommend Girls in White Dresses by Jennifer Close?

I knew it would be tough finding the right book to pick up on the heels of the Rules of Civility, so sticking with the theme of 20-something girls making their way in the big city seemed like a step in the right direction.

It's not as whip-smart, elegant and sharp as Rules--if that title is a "dry martini of a book" then Girls is more like a margarita, or a cosmo, or even a six pack of beer. But it made me laugh out loud as I followed along while these girls dodged the slings and arrows of misfortune, dating and working in the years after college.

They made me smile as I remembered my own 20-something days and all the mischief, mishaps and silliness my girlfriends and I got into in the years before we watched each other climb the corporate ladder, sail down the aisle, and start families. Good times with great girls (Dana, Christina, Megan, Brenda, Sasha, Lizzie, Dina, Jen, Meredith) many of whom I'm lucky enough to still count as close friends that I can face the current decade with -- and hopefully many to come!

Whether you're currently living it up in your 20s, or looking for a fun trip down memory lane, it's a diverting read-- perfect for poolside or ocean side or an Adirondack chair in the backyard. Wherever you plan to plunk yourself down this weekend, I hope you have a wonderful time...

and I hope to get back to a more regular schedule and that I'll talk to you all next week! XO

  2. So happy to be back in the blogosphere. I came by to see how your back is (as well as read any posts of course!!)!! Mine is so much better - am still doing PT - but it's so inconvenient isn't it? Makes you realize how important good health is!! Love all your girls in white dresses. I think when I have some free time, I'll try "Rules" first - sounds a bit more up my alley!! Glad to see you back! (no pun intended)
