Work takes me to the Bay Area quite frequently, but typically that means a hotel room and a store visit, with no time to play -- I actually couldn't remember the last time I explored the city.
What a treat to have some time for an urban adventure. We ate it up -- literally. Amazing meals at Frances (Bacon Beignets!), Spruce and The Slanted Door.
We were culture vultures, taking in The Steins Collect at SF MOMA and Balenciaga and Spain at the de Young (Mr. H was a trooper!) And while we were at Golden Gate Park, we let our sense of wonder run wild at the Academy of Sciences, from the living roof, to the canopy of a tropical rain forest to creatures hiding beneath the deep blue sea.
Our moment of zen came in the form of green tea and treats at the Golden Gate Park Tea Garden. So restful.
But my favorite had to be the Ferry Building. Our first morning in town, we took the short walk from our hotel to nibble our way through the bustling Ferry Plaza Farmer's Market....
...and made that trek back to the Ferry Building our daily morning ritual for coffee from Blue Bottle and fruit and pastries from Frog Hollow. So many of my favorite things from the best local purveyors all under one roof--from cheese from Cow Girl Creamery to macarons from Miette. Yum!
How wonderful to have such a fun city to explore just a short flight away -- I can't believe we didn't do it sooner.
