The More Things Change

Change. It's been on my mind the past few weeks. There's a comfort in knowing that there is so much truth to the cliche "the more things change, the more they stay the same."

Audrey Hepburn in Givenchy, Funny Face 1957

Something I've always loved about working in fashion is the fact that it's always changing. But as much as our business is about looking forward, it can't get away from looking back. I think that's one of the keys to surfing through life's myriad of changes. Stay focused on what's next, but keep glancing back toward the past, carrying a little circle of beauty forward into the newest biggest thing. Follow the dots into the future, but have one foot firmly planted in the past that has gotten you to where you are standing today....

What do you think? Do you embrace change or long for the "good old days"? How do you keep your feet on the ground during periods of change?

  1. I'm a traditionalist at heart so sometimes I struggle to accept change, but I try my best to!

  2. I always embrace change but with a good nod at the past.....xv

  3. I agree that the more things change, the more they stay the same! So I always look forward to the future but keep in mind lessons of the past!
Great selection of pictures as always!

  4. I saw photos on another blog of JFK Jr. and Caroline and talk about classic. Those pictures could have been taken yesterday. I love the history in those kinds of photos but I look forward to seeing things evolve too as I try to just enjoy each day and wonder what new classics will come.
    Love this post!

  5. Couldn't agree with you more. I have a BIG project I'm working on that will be revealed in September that speaks so eloquently to this topic. I am all about using our knowledge and appreciation of the past to move forward.
