Stopping To Smell The Lilacs

Well, hello! I've missed chatting with everyone. Funnily enough, last week's Blogger outage coincided with a bit of a creative blackout in my own little brain. So I took a hint from the Universe and gave myself a timeout to rest, recharge and take a few deep breaths.

And as I inhaled I was rewarded with the sweet smell of spring. The lilacs are in bloom all over our neighborhood, and when I took the time to take a walk, the air was spiked with their lovely velvet purpleness.

Lilacs are one of my favorite flowers, they remind me of my Grandmother, who had hedgerows of them circling her home and always brought me a huge bouquet every year on my birthday.

I can't get enough, really. They speak of spring and lengthening May days to me. I wish I could live in a lilac-tinted world and be wrapped in their deep purple fragrance from head...

Where do you look when you need a charge to your creative batteries? It seems to me that nothing inspires more than a little natural beauty. What do you think?

  7. An absolutely charming post! Lilacs are such a deliciously delicate fragrance ~ nothing quite like them.

    All the images are lovely ~ but my goodness, you have captured the delicacy of the lilac itself in your own illustrations. {Especially the one with the little sofa.}

  8. Jeanne, this is an absolutely gorgeous post for all of the senses. I actually think I can smell the lilacs in my neighbors back yard just from reading this! I need to go and pick a bouquet for my house. And the colors are stunning! I've been wanting to add lavender/lilac as an accent color in my bedroom for sometime. This is just the inspiration I needed. Thank you. xoxo.

    I so agree, natural beauty is great way to recharge...have a good week.

  11. Beautiful! All those lilacs remind me of my childhood in the midwest where we would pick heaps of lilacs from bushes along the side of the road. The smell is heavenly! It's been at least 25 years since I've seen a lilac bush in the wild but I'll never forget that smell. Thanks for sparking my memory!
