Mr. H. and I went a couple weeks ago and loved it. Mr. Cave's Sound Suits, wearable fabric and found-object suits, are utterly delightful--Dr. Seuss meets Sesame Street meets Where The Wild Things Are meets Couture. They're also thought provoking, bringing up themes of beauty vs. ugly, treasure vs. garbage, stranger vs. familiar. But mostly, in my eyes, the suits are fun and playful.
They put in an appearance in the September 2010 issue of Vogue, and when you look closely at the fabrication and craftsmanship, it's no surprise that Mr. Cave is the director of the graduate fashion program at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.

I think even some of my youngest friends would love this exhibit if their moms have time to take them to SAM. Penelope, Bobby, Sophia, Lane and Cole, let me know which suit is your favorite! (I'm fond of the furry ones, myself!)
Have a wildly fun weekend, everyone!

f a b u l o u s post my darling friend... wow... i will go check it out (even though i am not one of the little ones!) he he xx

Wow very neat. I don't think we have anything like that out here in Cali. The closest I can compare it to is FIDM when they have the academy award costumes on display. Those hairy images are crazy. Kind of reminds me of cousin it =) Thanks for sharing.

Thanks Jeanne! Our Sunday plans just went sideways, and heaven knows my kids can't get enough of the SAM - great idea! Sophia would also like to request a painting class with you soon!! XOXO
ReplyDeleteI am going to challenge you back and you guess which Penelope will choose.... then of course, afterwards you know she is going to attempt her own creation....
ReplyDelete"I love all of them!" proclaims Lane. But, when push comes to shove, she stands with her mama and favors Mary Katranzou's FABULOUS floral ensemble. We will head to SAM to see all the fabulous fuzziness in person shortly! xo
ReplyDeleteWhat fun!! Wish I were able to see it in person. And love your pairings - always fun to see some "art" on the runway!

I think my little fashionista Sofia will love the exhibit. I'll plan to take her during sprin break in a couple of weeks. I'm just worried she'll wanted to start dressing like this, seriously! Happy Monday.
ReplyDeleteJust saw this on SAM's site. You can make your own. hah!
