I actually thought about it on a long walk on the beach at Whidbey Island last Thanksgiving Weekend. Instead of giving myself a list of things to improve about myself, I thought instead I'd like to improve the way I experience the world. Do more of the things that make me happy and less of the things that steal away energy.
So paint more, gossip less. Appreciate what is lovely and good in others rather than quibble about faults (including my own). Less complaining. More playing outside.
And hopefully, if I do more of the things that make me happy and less of the things that don't, I'll have more energy to get to that yoga class, tackle the closet and step away from the cake.
