Having A Ball

A big "to do" on my list this week is sorting out our attire for a Masquerade Ball we'll be attending in a couple weeks. A fundraiser in the home of one of my favorite hostesses, it's sure to be a ball indeed--but what to wear?

I've been gathering up a few points of inspiration, starting with Truman Capote's Black & White Ball...

A bit of 60s black and white retro-ish chic could be fabulous, no?

 ODLR would be perfect...

 Or what about this Marchesa?

Perfect with some fine-feathered Manolo friends

Or perhaps a little Marie Antoinette Versailles-style glamor...

Oscar would make me feel like a Queen...

So would Dior Couture

Musn't forget Carine Roitfeld's Bal de Masque, mais bien sûr...

Sexy-chic could be just the thing...

Great L'Wren Scot

Or Chanel

What about...

...a show-stopper à la Anna dello Russo!

 Marchesa

 Or McQueen!

On second thought, Anna didn't look very comfortable, and even if I could pull it off... the reality is that I'll be digging in the depths of my closet, not shopping for a new gown...

So I need a look that's simple and only needs just a little something. I'm thinking Audrey...

...in How to Steal a Million

A sexy mask, a Little Black Dress, a little or a lot of lace...

 Collette Dinnigan

 ODLR

Racy-lacy Jimmy Choo could be the perfect finishing touch

Sounds just about right... what do you think? What would you wear if you were in my shoes?

  5. Seriously cannot think of anything more fun than a masquerade ball. I'd feel like a kid in a candy store. This post was fantastic, especially when I scrolled down to Audrey ♥

Thanks for the fun Jeanne ~

  6. We have a Grand Masquerade Ball coming up in Los Angeles at Bardot on September 13, 2011. It is for the 2 year anniversary of its infamous party, Mr. Black. Mr. Black is a weekly gay-oriented party, but very accepting of our straight friends. It tends to lean towards the fabulous. I think I am leaning towards the Marie Antoinette-era look, but with a spin. White powdered wig, gold-embroidered brockade coat, breeches, a punk rock t-shirt, boots, Adam Ant inspired make-up, feathers, and a lace mask. What do you guys think? Also, if anyone would like to be invited, find me on facebook. Look up Bobby Webster. I have pinkish hair in my profile pic! XOOXOOX
