Fit for a Dutchess

My friend Kendall and I were all atwitter at work yesterday about the Oscar de la Renta Pre-Fall 2011 collection. STUNNING. Style.com said it was fit for a princess, and wondered if ODLR had been inspired by the upcoming royal wedding. Vogue.com said it was an exercise of Oscar as Oscar. And truly it did represent all the things I love about ODLR. The elegance, the prettiness, the femininity-- but certainly with no hint of a shrinking violet. The great man himself said it was about "A lifetime's work."

But when I saw the first look, the image that immediately came to mind was The Duchess of Windsor.

Perhaps it was the strong red mouths worn by the models. Or the pops of interesting jewelry.

Or perhaps it was Arizona Muse's unique features, or that her "parted-down-the-middle" hair style looked like it could have been copied straight from a photo of Wallis Simpson.

A duchess, a princess, the co-cost host of the Academy Awards...all of the beautiful women who have loved his clothes--whatever or whoever the influence, a beautiful collection, don't you think?

  1. Very perceptive post!! I think this was one of his most spectacular collections. I always love Oscar but I wanted almost every piece! Now if my AmEx would just cooperate!
